Jürgen Habermas may be the foremost intellectual in Europe. Since the 1960s his scholarship has set research agendas in philosophy, sociology, and history, while his newspaper articles and Jurgen Habermas is considered to be an influential spokesperson for the young generation of critical theorists (McCarthy, 1978). Born in 1929, Habermas grew up in Germany and did not become radicalized till the late 1950’s. He joined the institute in 1956 and worked as Adorno’s assistant. Jürgen Habermas is a German sociologist and philosopher in the tradition of critical theory and American pragmatism. He is perhaps best known for his work on the concept of the public sphere, the topic of his first book entitled The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere.
